How to use Stripe Radar for fraud protection

Payment gateways

Stripe Radar helps you spot and block fraudulent payments, so your business stays protected.

What Stripe Radar does

Radar uses machine learning and rules you can customize. With Radar you can:

  • Block payments when the CVC check fails.
  • Block payments when the postcode check does not match.
  • Flag or block payments from suspicious IP addresses or countries.
  • Decline high-risk payments automatically based on their risk score.
  • Write your own rules, for example to block disposable email addresses.

Stripe's Radar documentation explains more.

Fees

Basic fraud protection is included in Stripe's standard pricing. Advanced features may cost extra, depending on your account and country. Check Stripe's pricing page or ask Stripe support for current details.

Add a Radar rule

Basic fraud detection is always on. For more control, add rules in your Stripe account:

  1. Log in to Stripe.
  2. Under Payments, go to Radar, then Rules. Not there? You may need to activate Radar first.
  3. Click Add rule and choose a type, for example Add block rule.
  4. Enter your condition. For example, to block payments over $5000 from customers created less than 24 hours ago: :amount_in_usd: > 5000 and :hours_since_customer_was_created: < 24. You will find this example in Stripe's list when you scroll down.
  5. Click Test rule to preview its effect.
  6. Click Add rule to turn it on.

Stripe offers many more block and allow rules. Their full guide covers them all.

Radar rules are set in your Stripe account. SleepPRO™ cannot set them for you.
Rules are optional, and strongly recommended for tighter control over fraud.
