How to create a website
Pages
The Websites feature lets you build a full website with several pages, all managed in one place: your homepage, About me, sleep packages, testimonials and contact.
I. Create a website
- Go to Sites, then Websites, and click Create.
- Fill in:
- Name of your website.
- Domain name.
- Home page URL path, which appears once you choose a domain.
- Language.
- Click Save.
- Choose a template, or Build from scratch, and click Save. The website editor opens.
II. The editor
- Pages: your site structure. Switch between pages, create new ones and open page settings.
- Popups: create and manage popups.
- Style: fonts, colors and buttons for the whole site.
- Settings: languages and general options.
III. Pages
Main pages: click + Create to add a page. The Add to menu switch is on by default, adding the page to your navigation. Click a page to show it, then click inside the editor to start editing. Click Pages at the top left to return to the list. If you leave with unsaved changes, you are asked to confirm.
Utility pages are created for you and follow your site's style:
- Log in: your domain's login page, with your logo, text and button styles.
- Contact us: a contact form built with the Form element. Not needed? Deactivate it with the three dots.
- Search: shows search results. To add a search icon, click your header and turn on Search. The search opens on top of your header and sends visitors to this page.
Page settings: click the three dots next to a page for Settings, Unpublish or Remove. The homepage cannot be removed. In Settings:
- General: page name and URL path.
- SEO: title, description, keywords, author, image and a search preview. You can hide the page from search engines.
- Languages: Duplicate language-specific versions of this page to create a copy to translate. Add your languages in Settings, Languages first.
- Custom code: tracking code for this page only. Use tested scripts only.
IV. Publishing
New pages start as drafts. Click the three dots and choose Publish. Unpublish the same way.
V. Popups
Click + Create in the Popups tab, then click the popup to edit it. Click the globe icon to choose:
- Blue globe: website popup, on every page.
- Grey globe: page popup, on this page only.
VI. Forms
The Form element holds your fields, checkboxes and submit button in one container, so you can have several separate forms on one page.
- Elements tab: remove standard fields with the bin icon, click fields to edit their placeholder, make them optional, add icons and change the design. Click + to add fields, checkboxes or custom fields (created on your contacts page, see How to add a custom form input field). Drag fields to reorder.
- Design tab: the form follows your site's style. Override borders, spacing, position and colors here.
- Actions tab: no redirection with a success message, or a custom URL. Tick double opt-in. Add automations such as a tag, a campaign or an email when the form is submitted.
You can also choose this form in the Website form subscribed trigger of your automation rules and workflows.
VII. Style
Set typography, colors (background, buttons, links), buttons and form fields for the whole site. Click the Reset icon next to a setting to undo a style change on an element.
VIII. Settings
Website name, domain, homepage, language and logo.
IX and X. Several languages
- Build your site in your main language.
- For each page, open the three dots, go to Languages and duplicate the page for the new language.
- Switch languages with the dropdown at the top of the Pages tab.
- Translate each page yourself. Switching languages does not translate content.
XI. Device preview
Use the preview buttons at the top right to see desktop, mobile portrait and mobile landscape.
XII. Share a website
In your websites list, click the three dots and choose Share, then Copy link to clipboard. The other person logs in and the website is added to their account. Sharing is available once a template is chosen.
XIII. Changing the domain
Exit the editor, click the three dots next to your website and choose Settings to change the name, domain or homepage URL path.
