How to set up a GDPR compliant cookie banner

Legal papers

A cookie banner asks visitors for permission before your website uses cookies, as GDPR requires. Here is how to add one with an outside tool. This example uses Cookiebot. Other tools work the same way.

Set up Cookiebot

  1. Create an account at manage.cookiebot.com. The free plan covers one domain.
  2. In the Domains tab, click the green + button and add your domain.
  3. In the Banner tab, choose how your banner looks and behaves, and how visitors give consent.
  4. In the Privacy Trigger tab, turn on the privacy trigger. It shows on every page so visitors can view and change their consent. Choose its position and theme.
  5. The Declaration tab, for paid plans, shows detailed cookie information automatically.
  6. In the Content tab, describe why your site uses cookies. Keep it clear and short. Free plans allow one language (English). Paid plans allow several, and can show the banner in the visitor's language automatically.

Add the scripts to SleepPRO™

The Your scripts tab gives you two pieces of code:

  1. Add the first script to your page header. In the page editor, click Settings and paste it in the tracking code header box.
  2. Add the second script in a Raw HTML element on the page where your cookie declaration should show, such as your privacy policy page.

This works for your blog too. Add the header script to your blog layout, and the banner shows on every blog page and post.
